In 2005, Kara Walker’s image for this project was used in a national billboard campaign featuring billboards in Durban, Johannesburg , and Cape Town, South Africa and is an artist’s visual response to the appalling, life-threatening lack of health care access and education for millions of women living in poverty worldwide.

The work portrays the mysterious silhouette of a vulnerable, young woman entirely alone, suspended in space. It is an ambiguous and thought-provoking image. Walker's work speaks directly to AFH's campaign to support women and children's rights, including access to STD prevention and reproductive healthcare including emergency contraception (EC).

| This led to a collaborative research project was undertaken in 2006 by the Departments of Fine Art and Environmental Health to evaluate the impact of art as an advocacy tool on the knowledge, attitudes and practices of students at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) regarding the use of EC. The study was intended to evaluate the impact of the art of Kara Walker appraising the knowledge, attitudes and practices of students at DUT regarding the use of EC |
