Artist Statement: Arkin Ilicali

"This right not only provides the human being the opportunity to progress in their unique identity and own environment, but at the same time makes our world a diverse, colorful and a challenging place.
Art is the expression of the soul. This expression may be shaped with colors, sounds, words or different materials while carrying different meanings and perspectives. The significance and importance of art is that it subjectively attempts to communicate throughout the world as a universal form of language, knowing no boundaries or borders. Art provides an innate understanding of ourselves as well as others, uniting us together and allowing us to communicate peacefully and thoroughly.
As an artist the act of making art itself is the most important element of the process regardless of its content, art itself has great value as an expression of freedom and peace. In this project I take the opportunity of making art related to the UN code regarding "freedom of expression" in the Human Rights Declaration. My ability to practice and perform art is done being granted this right. It is extremely imperative that all human beings be allowed to express themselves with the knowledge that art binds us together as one people who only know the beauty of expression."
