| Carmen Maria was born in Maputo in 1974. She studied at the Escola de Artes Visuais in Maputo and the Escola Nacional de Artes Plásticas in Havana, Cuba. She was an art teacher from 1995 at the Artes de Visuais, Lopes Penha-Cuba and in 1998 at the Escola Galeria Eugénio Lemos. |

| She participated in collective exhibitions in Mozambique, Germany, Cuba and Lisbon and held her first single exhibition in 1998. She also attended workshops in Durban, Finland and Portugal and won the first prize for printwork at the Biennial 1999 organized by TDM. |
