Arkin Ilicali was born in Bursa, Turkey in 1966. He studied initially at Istanbul University where he majored in photography and journalism, while simultaneously working as a free-lance photographer and photo-journalist in Turkey. In 1989 he emigrated to Canada, where he studied Fine Art at the University of Sakatchewan.
From 1995-98 he completed his Masters at Concordia University in Montreal where he now teaches. Ilicali is recognized as one of the foremost experts on the traditional Turkish paper marbling technique of Ebru - an ancient printing technique. He has had many solo exhibitions and his work is included in numerous collections in the United States, Canada and various European countries.
