Araucanian Poem:
| |
I believe in mankind his and in his capacity to be happy.
In his capacity to enjoy this life here on earth, in his capacity to understand
the natural laws and to put them to his service, in his capacity to coexistence,
in his capacity of altruism, of abstraction, of forecast and of reason.
I believe in his capacity to transcend his enjoyments and immediate goods
toward superior goods.
I believe as Héctor Abad Gómez, a defender of human rights in Colombia pointed out:
in the capacity of each man to build scale of values to which he can
stand in his actions’.
I defend, therefore, the value of the human life and I believe that their preservation
is a must in itself, in any circumstance, in any moment of a man’s life, without prejudices
against race, condition, nationality, beliefs or actions either present or past.

To be a contemporary artist then means to have a creative attitude, from which a language is generated. The elaboration of this language implies to juxtapose my experience with that of others. Therefore, I am not the center of my work, because to me, as an artist, it is not happening anything significant to me: the significant events – that define our social and cultural environment – are happening to other people. I work so that these people, be they near or distant in Latin America or in any place all over the world, can build a more worthy equitable and freer society day by day.
